<<-----------Trillium
Earthbase------>>
Effigy Proposal for
Transformus, 2009
Design:
The Trillium design is based on the local,
native wildflower found in Deerfields, the Verigated Trillium.
The foundation and core of this sculpture
are based on sacred geometry and uses Fibonacci’s number (aka
the “the golden mean”) to predict proportion and balance.
The Effigy base is comprised
of three sections – a trifecta, joined centrally by a triangular core
which gives rise to the tower platform supporting the effigy itself.
Each of the three outer sections will represent three of the four elements
– those being; earth, air and water. The central effigy platform
is to represent fire. The three outer sections will be covered
by a bamboo pavilion, and house, for the days leading up to the burn,
artist media with which people may express themselves on and in the
effigy base itself. Available media includes paint, materials
for sculpture etc, which will be relevant to the earth elements in each
section.
The central core will
be separated by flowing cloth; a triangular dojo for relaxation and
meditation. Once inside, there will be an open atrium of light
from which the bottom of the effigy platform can be seen. Pending
no unforeseen design complications, a second platform can be accessed
from inside the core providing an airy view of the burn field.
Atop the decentralized
platforms will be placed metal containers which will burn at night with
a “green fire” – a reminder to us all to be stewards of the earth.
The effigy itself is
to be announced – it should be noted that the effigy represented in
the pictured model is for scale only, and not necessarily representative
of the actual effigy.
The Burn:
On Saturday night, the
outer three pylons will be detached from their horizontal members and
moved to the center core. The horizontal “wings”, will retract
vertically and centrally symbolizing the closing of flower petals at
the end of the day. The central core will be filled with consumables
(i/e cord wood, pallets, scrap lumber, hay bales etc) to help attain
an appreciably sized fire.
Clean-up:
Effigy team will be responsible
for adhering to LNT guidelines as established by Burning Man, Transformus
LLC and Deerfields. The only non-consumables should consist of
nails, bolts, hinges etc, and will be removed Sunday morning by the
effigy team and disposed of properly.
Budget:
This effigy proposal
falls well within the amount being granted by the art curation team
and BOD. Itemized breakdown can be furnished to responsible parties
upon request.
