Transformus is a place where everyone can feel comfortable sharing creativity with one another. We encourage all types of creative expression, from costuming to installations to movement arts to performance art. The leadership group as a whole works hard to provide a fertile environment where each participant feels comfortable sharing their creativity without fear of being judged.
Our temporary utopian community, called Mysteria, is a living work of art in itself, weaved together by each participant's gifts. How will you participate in building our artistic community? What forms of expression will you share with your fellow Transformus family members?
Creativity that's interactive and engages others is a great way to encourage participation in our society. Involve the community in all aspects of your projects, from design, to fundraising, to its realization at Transformus, all the way through to your Leave No Trace efforts. People are looking for ways to get involved, invite them in!
In general, we leave placement up to the participant, as artists themselves know where their creativity works best. We do suggest that you consider placing or performing your work in a public area as it will reach more participants that way. There are two covered stages at our beautiful home, Deerfields. Please consider sharing your performance based works there. We have a covered, lighted art gallery at Center Camp and invite everyone to bring canvas-based work ready to hang from the rafters or free standing installations ready for placement. If you'd rather keep your project closer to your own Theme Camp, go right ahead! We're here to provide opportunities, not limit them.
We strive to give participants total control over their creative endeavors but there are several criteria we ask everyone to work within. All creativity must Leave No Trace. All Flame Effects must meet the approval of our Fire Response Team Lead Vespa in order to operate and be placed in our main Burn field for safety response reasons. All motorized art must have the approval of our Mysteria Department of Mobile Arts Team Lead Miss Pippi or remain stationary throughout of the event. While Radical Self-Expression is a core principle of our community, it must be balanced with respect for others; please don't interfere with others' experiences. Keep overly intrusive performance art within the confines of your Theme Camp so those who wish to participate can, and those who wish not to participate have that option. Other than those four basic criteria, we give artists full creative license to do as they please. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone, go for it!
All participants should be aware that the potential for exposure to overt adult behaviors and themes exists in all communities – Mysteria included. If your psyche, or that of those in your care, is not open and flexible, you might want to rethink your participation in Transformus. All are welcome in our community; we ask only that you come with an open mind.
If you have questions on how your creativity fits into the Mysteria community, our Creativity Grants process, to request early arrival permission for your volunteer crew, or suggestions on how we can better accommodate your artistic offerings please contact our Art Team Lead Sauce. We're here to serve you!
Remember, Mysteria is what you make it, built by the community as a whole. If you'd like to see something at this year's event, step up to the plate and share it with the family!
